Arizona Mustang Trip -November

This was a trip we had not planned on and came after I totaled the Yellow Mustang in an accident near Sam's Club. Thank god no one was injured but it was not any fun and caused us to ask Linda's parents for $20,000 which we used to buy a red mustang convertible in Phoenix Arizona. We decide to take the train to Flagstaff where we would rent a car one way to Phoenix. We thought we had purchased our tickets on line  but to our surprise no one asked us for a ticket as we boarded and rode this wonderful train.  The conductor was friendly and very helpful. We finally asked him about our tickets and he said that we should have been asked for them when we got on the train. We were prepared to pay  him but he refused and said it would be his pleasure to comp our trip and so it was free except we found after we got home that we had been billed for about $25 in booking fees. Still it was quite an unexpected gift.

The train ride was very pleasant and we passed the time sitting in one of the vista cars with a great view and pleasant companions. Linda and I played cards and spoke with other passengers like the young Amish family taking a daughter with cancer to San Diego for special treatment. We spent the night in Flagstaff and the next morning drover our rental to Phoenix where we purchased our Red convertible.

We drove back to the grand Canyon where we were able to get a room at the Canyon Lodge. We were so close to the actual rim. We were less than 30 steps from the rim and enjoyed both a breathtaking sunset and a glorious sunrise. We had dinner on the rim and again had a glorious view from where we were eating.

We drove home through the North rim and stopped and took more pictures.

We also took pictures of the controlled fires that were burning. The weather was fine and we had the top down much of the day.

We drove over the Colorado river Bridge and stopped to make a small purchase from local Indians.

The pictures above were taken in the morning light at Bryce Canyon National park.

On the way to Denver we took the Laramie river road and found  ourselves immersed in a modern day cattle drive completely surrounded by cattle. It was very interesting.

This was short purpose filled trip that will remain one of our most precious memories. From the train, the conductor and the car and then the trip home it was perfect.
