Oregon

The very first time I went to Oregon was for a doll show in Portland

I flew in with boxes of dolls and saw wonderful wooden dolls made locally

I took an exploratory drive in my rented car and

Made an incredible loop up the Columbia River

I stopped and had dinner by myself in Multnomah Falls, sturgeon and it was delicious

I drove on to The Dalles and then around to Timberline Lodge and back to Portland

I stopped and sang to my heart’s content in the beautiful forest

Alongside the road on the way to Timberline

I was profoundly touched by the green waterery wooded mountainous area I was in

Mt Hood was enormous and beautiful and everywhere you could see

My first remembrance of Oregon with my family is at Grant's Pass

With all three daughters and my wife

We stopped long enough to see a young former employee and

Take a jet boat tour of the Rogue River

We saw Osprey and other neat things and enjoyed a very special day

Later on that same trip, we also went to Crater Lake National Park

It was a stunning view of an enclosed clear lake and we will remember the sight of it forever

In Gresham we sat and had a really nice breakfast with Mt. Hood staring down at us

We went on to Portland and took the same loop I had taken by myself on my very first visit

We stopped at Crown Point and was joined on our trip by wonderful antique cars

 from a National Car Rally

We explored Multnomah Falls as a family and it was very neat and then

we stopped at the fish ladders near Cascade Locks

We went up and in the Timberline Lodge and saw the famous St. Bernard and

we had a great day

We bought the best sweetest cherries at a local farm up past The Dalles

On our 40th wedding anniversary, my wife and I

Travelled the entire Oregon Coast just to see it

It was worth seeing

We drove the 101 from Gold Beach to Seaside and then cut up to Portland

We had our picture taken on an Oregon beach by a couple

That was on their 50th anniversary trip

While we were on our 40th wedding anniversary trip.

We even drove what must have been the original highway as it was so marked and

a dirt road right on the edge of the coast

We saw something jumping in the ocean but it was too far away to know if it was a whale

Still the views were incredible and the time romantic

We came down into a tsunami area and that was interesting especially

because less than a month after we were there,

They experienced a small earthquake and had an actual tsunami warning

We saw sand dunes that were similar to the ones we have seen in California

We drove past and wondered at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area as we had never heard of it before

Funny, Pendleton is a flat almost high desert area and not like the rest of the state at all

We stopped at a Pendleton Wool Outlet but it was way too expensive for us

to buy anything, still had beautiful things

I remember driving alongside a beautiful "natural" river that was so clean

you could drink directly from it

At least I remember a sign to that effect

Once on a prior trip we camped on the Rogue River and

a fisherman brought us a string of fresh trout

Which Linda promptly cooked for a great breakfast and

out daughters were not so sure if they liked them

We did and they were perfect in a near perfect setting

We have driven Interstates 84 and 5 and highways 26 and 20 and others not so well known

This is a beautiful green state dominated by Mt. Hood and the Columbia River and

the Rogue in the south

Large green forest in a place that always seemed wet to me

We like Oregon
