Illinois
The drive from Wisconsin to Chicago through Rockford is mostly rolling hills and dairy land
We have driven from Chicago to Springfield and then to St Louis via both I55 and I57
The interstate seemed to be always laden with heavy bustling trucks who urged you not to get in their way
There isn't much difference both have some woods but are mostly farming area
We have driven through Peoria toward Des Moines and again farming although a lot of corn
We have crossed the Mississippi at Cape Girardeau and at Cairo
We visited Abe Lincoln's home somewhere in an Illinois State park, seems close to Springfield
I once went to a doll show in Peoria and did not sell very much
Once I got lost accidentally lost late at night in East St. Louis and saw many drug sellers and women of the street
One of my son-in-law's mother and father lived and we visited in O'Fallon
Took a picture of a beautiful flower in her yard
We interviewed for a position at an O'Fallon Catholic church but we were way too liberal
Chicago is what I remember best and the most about
I spent a full week at a summer school session at Catholic Theological Union
The best thing about this week was I went to White Sox and Cub games daily
I sat in great seats and had Cominskey Park and Wrigley Field "Dogs"
Once Linda and I went to a double header sitting right under Harry Caray and then to see Showboat
It was a very great day
We stopped in Chicago on the way to North Dakota and went to the new White Sox Park for a game
We also spent a fine evening harness racing at a track just inside of Illinois and just out of St. Louis
Lakeshore Drive is a magnificent drive and we have seen the Lake in Chicago
We have landed at O'Hare and Midway and driven from each
Somehow the traffic doesn't seem as bad as in other huge cities
I very much remember once on a trip stopping at a game at old Cominskey Park it's last year in existence
Seems like Illinois begins and ends always in Chicago yet there is much more to the State
