Vermont
This is a tiny far from everywhere but beautiful state that
We have driven across and up and down
We have driven highway 7 all the way through Shelburne and on to Burlington
Vermont is all wooded and mostly rolling hills filled
With enormous color especially in autumn
Once we took the Burlington Port Ferry across Lake Champlain
Another time we were exploring and found a home that was abandoned and
For sale and had a hidden enclosed elevator
It was shaped almost like a tall mushroom of concrete and was a neat looking place,
At least from the outside
We have driven up and into Stowe and there we saw the home of the Trapp Family, you know, the Sound of Music People
I once saw them before they became super famous as they performed at my high school in Sault Ste. Marie
We have also driven down on highway 100 into Waterbury
On the way we stopped at Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory
And took the tour and had a sundae
We drove late into Killington one night and stayed at a very nice condominium
This whole area is green, wooded and near Ben and Jerry's seemed almost like a Wisconsin Dairy Farming area
Killington was much more mountainous although in the West, these mountains would not be even large hills
We stopped and went walking near Quechee and of course one of our grandsons’s decided to wander off on his own
This was a very pretty place to stop and Linda and I could have easily done the same
Another beautiful place we found was a fabulous covered bridge where once again we stopped and took pictures – just down from Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory.
Vermont though small is filled with sights, the sugar and maple syrup farms, graceful quiet people, colored trees and even more
While returning probably isn't in our future, we do remember this small state fairly well and with good driving memories
The Bennington to Brattleboro drive is yet another drive we took while living in Utica, New York
Those drives were very much our escape and all we could afford to do at that time and so it is what we did and the memories are firm within us
